Hello and welcome to The B-Side, a mastermind group for entrepreneurial women! On the first of each month, I share my business-related goals, challenges, and triumphs while inviting you to do the same! I'd love for you to join me; you can learn more about participating by clicking here. And just like that, it's already June! Did you crush your May business goals? Here's how it was for me:
Last Month's Business Goals & Results
- Write Daily. Even if it's for only 10 minutes. This is a failed goal if I ever saw one. I most certainly DID NOT write everyday. Not even for 10 minutes! Arrrgh! I WILL do better this month.
- Follow my editorial calendar. I created an editorial calendar in Google calendar which worked well, except that I kept changing it. I'd decide on post I wanted to write and the days I wanted to publish them, but then when I missed a self-imposed deadline (see above) I had to switch my calendar around. This was frustrating, I need to stick with my plan this month.
- Conduct some video interviews/panels. No video interviews completed, though I've been emailing back and forth with 3 potential interviewees. The main hold up has been syncing everyone's schedule, so I consider this goal half way (hence the half strikethrough...) completed.
- Continue plan my first event. I continued working on my event this month. I had hoped to get my venue booked but the place I originally wanted to host the event at ended up being WAY to expensive. So I'm back to the drawing board on finding a location.
This Month's Business Goals
Last month was a"eh". I can do better, I just need to get serious. My goals for this month are to:
- Write or work on a blog post everyday!!! (Come on Courtney!) I don't know why this is so hard for me but I'm sick of reporting on my failure to write regularly! No more excuses, I just have to buckle down and do it!
- Solidify location and agenda for event. Still looking to find a great location for this event! I'm also still kinda fuzzy on what exactly I want this event to be about, so my goal is to clear all that up this month.
- Complete the "homework" assignments from my new business coach. I hired my first ever business coach this month to help me organize and treat Think & Grow Chick like a business. Even though we've just gotten started, she is awe-some (*said with a high-pitched singing voice*). She's already help me come up with a major resource I think my readers will love! So far, we are breaking the project down into manageable steps I can complete week to week (i.e, my "homework") so I want to make sure I complete them.
Current Challenges
- Figuring out my writing process. I go back and forth over whether I want to decide all my post topics for the month ahead of time or write as inspiration strikes. Honestly, I write better when an idea first comes to me and I'm super passionate about it. But...I can't sit around and wait for the "inspiration fairy" to come land on my shoulder before I write or nothing would ever get written! So I'm trying to figure out a system that forces me to be consistent while allowing me to harness my more inspired moments.
- Prioritization. Lately I've slipped into a new kind of procrastination. My life is simply too busy so I don't have the luxury of not doing what I need to do; however, I've gotten really good at not doing what needs to be done most. If I have three tasks and I know task #1 is the one I absolutely, positively, 100% should start working on right away...I've avoid it and do tasks #2 and #3! Ugh, why do I do this!! Self-sabotage, perhaps?
Current Successes/What's Working
- Keeping a project to-do list. I have so many projects related to Think & Grow Chick its not funny. Lately, I've been keeping a project list with all my to-do's organized by project. This allows me to see, at a glance, the next task I need to do in order to move a particular project along. This has provided so much mental clarity for me! I feel like my brain is finally organized! The two apps that I use to do this are Todoist and Any.do.
- Working with my first ever business coach. As explained above, my coach is legit. For the longest, I never wanted to work with anyone on my goals, I figured I knew best and I could figure it out on my own. But after continually running into roadblocks, I decided I needed to work with someone who has been there and is doing what I want to do. So far hiring a coach has been very helpful. I like the accountability that comes with working with someone one-on-one whose sole focus is on helping you succeed. Plus, I too want to be a coach that works one-on-one with others, helping them reach their goals, so I see this a chance to see how good coaching is done.
