Video: March Hair Length Check

March 9, 2011

To say I have been on hiatus is a bit of an understatement. Ah, all of the Think & Grow Chick adventures and revelations that I must soon share! While I work on pulling this blog out of its comatose with fresh posts and videos on my business, finance, and personal adventures, I figured the least I could do is update everyone with my hair progress. I mean, at least my hair grew while I was gone, right?Below is a video of my March hair length check. The last "official" length check I did was almost a year ago, in April of 2010. Suffice it to say that I've made some progress since then :-) Check it out:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2HcS0dE4qgBasically, I describe in the video that although the length is not terribly longer than it was back in April of 2010, it is at least a lot healthier and fuller now.Part of the reason why I had setbacks starting in April 2010 was because I was obsessed with clipping my ends. My routine then, as it is now, was to basically wear my hair in two-strand twists protective styles throughout the week and to take them out for a twist-out come the weekend. The problem was I was not moisturizing my twists AT ALL during the week, then I'd expose my already dry hair to the elements when I took the twists out. To add insult to injury, I was not in the habit of doing anything to my hair at night, thus every week I was facing a lot of damage. After gradually cutting off about 3-4 inches over the course of the summer, I decided that enough was enough and I was never going to make it past APL with my current neglect-it-then-cut-it-off routine. I started (at the bare minimum) lightly spraying my hair with water before tying the ends in a silk scarf before bed. I also started detangling my hair with oils and/or conditioner prior to washing it. Most importantly, I also resolved to simply stop "trimming" my hair. I think a little fraying of the ends as you grow your hair out is to be expected--some wear and tear will happen. Adding the extra precautions to my regimen while keeping the scissors out of sight, I think made all the difference. My hope is to be at BSL by September, as described in the video. I plan to keep wearing the twists as my go-to low maintenance hair style while choosing not to trim unless it is absolutely necessary. We shall see how this goes. How have your hair growing goals turned out thus far? Are you on track? What has and hasn't worked for you over these last few months? Share your comments below.
