Interested in Working for Yourself? Join My New Monthly Mastermind Group!

February 27, 2014

A few years ago, I started a project here on the blog called, "The B-Side" which was an entrepreneurial resource for women. I ended up putting it on the back burner years ago as I made changes to the blog and introduced my bookclub, but I always thought it was a great idea and longed to bring it back one day.

Well, today is that day!

The B-Side will now be a monthly mastermind group for entrepreneurial women. I named it "The B-Side" after the funky, lesser known tracks on the other side of my favorite cassette tapes growing up.

Before CDs were big (wow, I guess I'm officially old), I used to love taking my $5 allowance to the music store and buying my favorite singles. (Aaliyah, TLC, and SWV were my girls!) Even though I always bought the cassettes for the singles that were popular on the radio, inevitably the cassette would contain either a remix of the song or a lesser known track from the artist on the "B side" of the tape. More often than not, I ended up liking the B side track more than the main single!

The joy of finding something unexpected and turning it into your "main thing" is exactly the sentiment I want to capture with this mastermind group -- that's what entrepreneurship is all about! Whether you...

  • already work for yourself
  • have a side hustle but want to grow it into your full-time gig
  • have a blog and want to grow it into a business
  • think you may want to start your own thing but have no idea what where to start
  • just love being around go-getting women

...This mastermind is for you! Think of The B-Side as the funky, entrepreneurial track on the "other side" of thinkandgrowchick.com, or rather, on the other side of YOU!

What is a mastermind group?

Popularized by Napoleon Hill in his book, Think and Grow Rich (which totally inspired this blog!), mastermind groups are simply regular meetings between a group of people who share their goals and help each other succeed. As explained by Forbes Magazine:

Mastermind groups are relatively new to most people, even though Napoleon Hill created the concept around 75 years ago with his book, Think and Grow Rich. A mastermind group is designed to help you navigate through challenges using the collective intelligence of others. How does a mastermind work? A group of smart people meet weekly, monthly, daily even if it makes sense, to tackle challenges and problems together. They lean on each other, give advice, share connections and do business with each other when appropriate. It’s very much peer-to-peer mentoring and if you are lucky enough to get invited to one, you will most likely see a marked change in yourself and your business.

How Will This Work?

On the first of each month, I will create a linkup blog post (our "meetings") where we can all share our entrepreneurial goals, progress, challenges, and successes for the month in the following format:

  1. Recap of last month's goals
  2. This month's business goals
  3. Current challenges
  4. Current successes/things that are working

If you have a blog, create your own post answering the 4 items listed above and link it to the B-Side posts I create on the first of each month. If you don't have a blog, simply answer the above topics in the comment section of the monthly B-side blog posts.

You can view the most recent B-Side "Meeting" post by clicking here

Important to note: though the post will be available on the first of the month for you to link-up to/comment on, you have all month to do so. You don't have to do it on the 1st if you don't want to, you can do yours monthly on the 15th or whenever!

Why Should I Join This?

  1. Learn from your peers. Some of the most helpful advice I've received in my life hasn't come from so-called experts or "gurus" but from other down-to-earth women who were willing to share what was working for them.
  2. Accountability. Let's face it -- it easy to make excuses and rationalize when no one is holding us accountable. If you are serious about reaching your goals then you need a community of people around you who will hold you to your word.
  3. Built-in support system. The B-side (and Think & Grow Chick in general) is all about encouraging each other and helping you bust through your challenges and struggles. Why struggle with something on your own for months when you can get it off your chest and get immediate help from a community of other women like you?
  4. Make connections. The great thing about masterminds is that the participants get a chance to really know you and support you as a person. This is an opportunity to not only reach your business dreams but to make new friends as well.
  5. Get to the next level. Having others around you and seeing what they are achieving will help you stretch your thinking and push past your comfort zone.

How Can I Join?

Joining is easy! If you want to participate, just start sharing your business goals using the format listed above by either (1) creating a blog post and linking it to or (2) commenting on the monthly B-side posts here on Think & Grow Chick. You can also participate by:

Joining the Private Facebook Group

In addition to participating here on the blog, I've created a private Facebook group you can join. Since the B-side post will come out monthly, this women-only Facebook group will serve as a "hub" for us to ask questions, share what we have going on, and generally connect with each other on a day-to-day basis. Feel free to join right now: http://facebook.com/groups/bsidebythinkandgrowchick

Building a Capsule Wardrobe

I have a confession: I'm kind of obsessed with the way french women dress. Granted, I've never even been to France so my image of Parisian chic is limited to what I've scene on blogs and in movies, but above all, I love the idea of how French women stay chic with a limited wardrobe. The desire to have a beautiful but paired-down wardrobe first started in college. I had no money for an enormous wardrobe but I still wanted to look stylish. Armed with maybe $30 of monthly spending money at best, I would tear through the racks every thrift and vintage store in a 20 mile radius, hunting for cute and unique pieces that would make my look "pop".
