B-Side Mastermind: Monthly Meeting #10 (December)

December 1, 2014

Hello and welcome to The B-Side, a mastermind group for entrepreneurial women! On the first of each month, I share my business-related goals, challenges, and triumphs while inviting you to do the same! I'd love for you to join me; you can learn more about participating by clicking here.Today marks the last B-Side meeting of the year! Below are my results for November, plus what I plan to do to finish the year off strong:

Last Month's Results

  • Get new, professional photos taken. I successfully got some GREAT professional, "business-y" shots last month. My friend who I only recently found out is an undercover photographer was so gracious to do my photoshoot for free! The initial shots looked really nice; now I just have to wait for her to retouch them and send them to me. Here's a sample shot:

Just finished a photoshoot w/ my über-talented friend and photographer, @lissettesteele! Can't wait until the rest of the pics come in! #dallas #photography #photoshoot #onthemove

  • Finish the videos for my newsletter offer. I didn't finish this -- but for good reason! I initially was going to offer a free 5-day challenge that included videos as my newsletter offer but I decided to put that on hold and offer my new Think & Grow Chick Private Community instead. I'd been toying with the idea of having a separate community for readers to share ALL their life goals (vs just business goals like we do here in the B-Side) for a while but kept putting it off. I finally pulled the trigger on it last week! If you haven't joined yet, check it out here.
  • Stick to my editorial & social media calendar. I did pretty good with this last month! I hit my posting goals and even got a few new podcasts up. I will continue this going forward.

This Month's Business Goals

  1. Plan my January event. So...I'm excited to say that I'm working on a VERY cool live event at the end of January in...(wait for it...)...Atlanta! Yeeeeeah! It's still in brainstorm mode right now -- nothing's concrete -- but I'm really hoping to pull this off. If you are in the Atlanta area, DEFINITELY sign up for newsletter (see my sidebar ---->) as I'll be sending out future updates by email first. So this month, to make this event a reality, I need to find a location and do all the other typical event planning stuff. Whew! Here goes...
  2. Complete my new workbook and get it ready for print. At the beginning of this year, I'll be offering my very first workbook! It's a 30+ page guide full of activities to help you finally get what you want next year. I'm designing it right now, so my goal is to finish the design so it can be ready for the new year! (Sign up for my newsletter to get sneak peaks of the workbook!)
  3. Finish designing my personal website. As I mentioned in some of my previous B-Side post, I'm currently designing a second website that will be solely dedicated to featuring my speaking and training services. I figure this will be handy when pitching corporate clients so I don't have to send them to my blog. I want to start doing more professional speaking engagements in 2015 so having a professional "speaker" site is crucial.

Current Challenges

  1. Managing the grind with my personal life. Last month, I did really well with my business goals...but I let a lot of my personal goals slide. I ate HORRIBLY and barely got any workouts in. My husband also complained that I pretty much ignored him all last month, which was probably true since I often felt chained to my laptop. This month, I am striving to not let my personal life fall by the wayside.

Current Successes/What's Working

  1. Accountability Partner. Getting an accountability partner is one of the best things I've done all year. I talk about finding an accountability partner in detail here, but having one has given me that extra "push" to not only get stuff done, but to get stuff done when I say I will. I love the feeling of having consistent progress, which I know I'm only getting because I have someone to answer to every week!
  2. Focusing on "The One Thing" everyday. Since I have so many projects running at once, if I'm not careful it can be difficult to manage them all. I recently read the book The One Thing which has helped me manage my projects more effectively. Every morning now, I simply asking myself "What’s the ONE Thing I can do such that by doing it everything else will be easier or unnecessary?" The book calls this "the focusing question" and it really works! I like it because even if I can't get EVERYTHING done, I'm getting the important things done, the things that move my project forward. Try it!
